Our Silly Goose Is Turning One First Birthday Party

Our Silly Goose turns one this Saturday, and we couldn’t be more excited to celebrate him! We love throwing birthday parties here and will gladly find any reason to celebrate. With a Silly Goose theme, you can take one of two directions: a cottage garden featuring geese, a nest of eggs, carrots and tulips, or geese in a pond with lily pads and reeds. For this party, we’re going with the garden setting, giving it a true garden-in-spring feel. With a tablecloth, paper plates, a banner, balloons, a centerpiece, and just a little creativity, you can easily create a memorable event for your little one. Normally, the cake doubles as the centerpiece, but we’ve decided to go with a plush goose this time. Mini cupcakes are my go-to for children’s parties; they’re just the right size for little hands and make it easy to keep things tidy.

The Party Timeline

Although I don’t follow the time to the minute, I do find it helpful to have a general schedule or order of events for the party. We’ve rented an indoor space for an hour, and if the weather permits, the children can play outside beyond the allotted time. Since all the kids at the party will be under 4, I find that one to two hours is more than enough. Here’s how I break it down:

10 Minutes: Party Starts

Take photos while the décor is still intact and the food is untouched. The kids are fresh, no cake on their faces (yet!), and everyone’s still ready to celebrate.

15 Minutes: Structured Activity

To help the children warm up to each other, we’ll start with a fun activity. Since they’re toddlers, 15 minutes works great, but for older children, you could extend the time. With spring in the air and a goose theme in mind, we’ll be having an egg hunt!

I picked up five buckets from the Dollar Tree, each with a coordinating egg color. Each child will be given a bucket and will search for eggs in that color. The eggs are filled with a mix of treats and trinkets, including bug or butterfly stickers, plastic bug toys, egg-shaped sidewalk chalk, freeze-dried strawberries, mini chocolate chip cookies, and flower-shaped marshmallows. I wanted to keep costs low and avoid filling the eggs with things that would just end up being thrown away.

15 Minutes: Cake and Snacks

It’s time for cake and snacks! We’ll serve mini cupcakes, along with cheese and “quackers” (I know, I know, geese honk and ducks quack, but we’re going with it!). There will also be grapes, cucumber flowers, and cuties to balance out all the sweet treats they’ll surely be enjoying!

*At the end of the day, what matters most are the memories you’ve made with your children, even if all you have to show for it is a blurry photo taken with the wrong camera.

20 Minutes: Free Play

Allow the children to play and enjoy the remainder of the party before heading home.
